8. Goals

8.1 Problem in the industry

In the present world, one in five people worldwide, which means 1.2 billion men and women of all ages, are in extreme poverty and are forced to live on less than $1 a day. In addition, half of the world's population lives at the poverty level with $2 a day of disposable income. Even worse, about 824 million people are starving or relying on unstable food supplies.

Due to this social background, it is difficult for researchers and entrepreneurs in developing countries to promote outstanding research and projects. In particular, it is challenging to generate sufficient income for researchers and entrepreneurs to carry out public intellectual property protection processes such as patent applications and submission to peer-reviewed papers.

Currently, there are favourable economic support policies such as OECD's Official Development Assistance (ODA) that incentivize developed countries to support developing countries. However, such measures only focus more on the macro-level. Therefore, these measures do not address the unique needs of each researcher and entrepreneur.

8.2 Value proposition

In 2021, UNIPLAT was launched as a platform where entrepreneurs and researchers can present their work to people worldwide while protecting their intellectual property rights regardless of economic and geographical circumstances. UNIPLAT allows people to support them by building objective credibility for entrepreneurs and researchers and their intellectual property rights.

Ease of Participation

UNIPLAT allows all members, as individuals or corporation members, to participate free of charge for most basic functions, except for some services. Also, unlike other similar online platforms, the prices of services will vary depending on the economic conditions of each country. (The more economically disadvantaged a country is, the lower the price.)

Market Reliability

UNIPLAT is a young online platform that was born in October 2021. Despite being a young organization, we already strongly collaborate with various high-profile organizations, including the Group of Nations, a public relations organization for international conferences such as the G7, G8, G20, and APEC. Our information on researchers and entrepreneurial members will also be available on their websites. Moreover, we have established a business alliance with EUTECH in June 2022, co-funded by the EU, to expand the business potential and trust creation for UNIPLAT entrepreneurs, researchers, and supporters.

Legal Safety

On many Social Networking Service (SNS) platforms, protecting the intellectual property rights (IP) of content published by entrepreneurs and researchers is difficult. There is always a risk of unauthorized secondary use and imitation of IP; however, UNIPLAT can mitigate such risks using smart contract technology. The IP and related content are bound to an NFT, protecting each contributor.
